In the beginning...

...was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race; the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." John 1:1-5

Words, especially our words that come from time spent in reflection with THE Word, have great power. They can inspire change in ourselves, in those we engage in conversation with and ultimately across our entire community. Lately I've been consumed with the thought of how words might affect two things so close to my heart, the first is the pro-life movement. I absolutely believe that genocide is occurring in our country and across the world and it breaks my heart to see how slowly change is happening. I wonder if our words and our debate and our dialogue are enough and if it is time for us to do more than just talk about it. I want to dive into this question on this blog.
On a more general level I want to talk about God's Word, Holy Scripture, and how it impacts and affects this generation, this very day and what we can gain from it to lead deeper lives of holiness, lives that more seamlessly incorporate our faith. This is, in a way, entirely selfish. I get easily distracted, I slowly fall into complacency before God smacks me upside the head (always lovingly of course!), in writing about it and sharing it in this blog (with whatever small group of people may read it!) I will not only be reminding myself of what God's Word means in my life, but I will, to a certain extent, be setting myself as a city on a hill that cannot be hidden [Mt. 5:14]. So if I write about how God's word sets a high standard for our speech and then I Facebook something negative and sarcastic, well I expect whoever reads this to call me out!
At least twice a week I'll be reflecting on current events, articles or quotes I run across and occasionally diving into the daily readings. Also, I'll clearly be sharing funny stories and pictures of my four adorable nephews who I have the incredible blessing of getting to babysit for 5 days a week!
This will be a test run in these next couple of weeks, please comment and give me whatever feedback you want!
in His peace....
-Teresa
